School Based Mental Health Supports

In accordance with Senate Bill 98 (SB 98), Hemet USD administers a Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener two times a year, during the Fall and Spring.

The SEL screener is a survey that asks students to reflect on their mindsets and approaches to learning. Social-Emotional skills include self and social awareness, self-management, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making.

HUSD partners with Panorama ED and Riverside University Health System to facilitate the screener.

Please Note:
  • Students in grades TK-8 participate in the Panorama SEL Screener. Survey topics include the sense of belonging, self-management, emotional regulation, and social awareness.
  • Students in grades 9-12 participate in Riverside University Health Systems Public Health’s Whole Person Health Screener. Survey topics in the Whole Person Screener include Physical Health, Emotional Health, Resources & Resilience, Socioeconomics, Ownership, Nutrition, and Lifestyle. Information from the health screener is used to connect students and families to resources.
All students are provided access to mental health services. In addition, individual and group therapy is available to students and parents through in-school services and out-of-school community partners.

Services Include:
  • Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
  • Trauma Focused CBT (CBITS)
  • Trauma-Focused Grief Therapy
  • Strengths Assessments
  • Family Therapy Services

Note: Students under 12 must have parental consent to receive services.
Student re-entry or "bridge" services are available to students returning to Hemet USD after expulsion, Home Hospital, or an extended Independent Study program.

The Bridge program includes:
  • Weekly mentor meetings with a Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) Specialist
  • Mental health support
  • Parent support
  • School-based team meetings to coordinate care
Hemet Unified School District has partnered with Hazel Health to provide access to quality healthcare services for all students at no cost to families. A school health representative can initiate a video visit with a Hazel health care provider while your child is at school to provide physical or mental health services. Please create an account using this link to access Hazel Health or Hazel Heart at home.
HUSD Secondary Schools provide students with opportunities to engage in mental health advocacy and support clubs. Clubs include PLUS, and Friday Night Live.
